Where the idea came from

One of the biggest influences behind Hikmah was my own Qur’an teacher. His teaching showed me that the impact of a teacher can last well beyond the lessons themselves. Knowledge can stay with someone throughout their life and, in time, be passed on to others.

That helped shape what I wanted Hikmah to become: a place where learners could gain knowledge, grow in confidence and feel supported as they developed.

Building alongside university

I have been building Hikmah alongside studying Biomedical Science at university. Balancing study, teaching and the responsibilities of running a business has been part of the journey.

As Hikmah develops, I want to keep the things that matter in individual lessons at the centre of the company: patience, clear explanations, preparation and the willingness to adapt when a learner needs a different approach.

Finding people to work with

While I was sharing Hikmah on Nextdoor, I was contacted by SmartMinds Tutoring about working together. That led to a partnership and a friendship, with both of us balancing university life and our work in education.

Hikmah remains an independent company. Working with people who share an interest in helping learners has become an important part of its development.

What Hikmah stands for

We offer academic tuition alongside Qur’an and Islamic education. Our Islamic foundations shape our values, and we welcome learners of all faiths and backgrounds. Respect and kindness should be part of every learner’s experience.

For me, good teaching means listening, explaining and helping someone become more confident in what they can do. Progress looks different for different people, and our teaching should reflect that.

The story is still being written

There is more we hope to do, from developing our programmes to widening the subjects and opportunities we offer. Those plans will take time, and we will share them as they develop.

My aim is for Hikmah to keep growing while staying connected to the reason it began: helping people gain knowledge they can carry forward.
